The Flyknit Collective?workshops, held at?1948 London, used each of the key attributes of Nike Flyknit as inspiration for four exclusive, week-long seminar events. Led by Nike innovators and London?s creative talent, the combined outcome of the workshops?a project that fuses sport and culture?was celebrated on August 17th.
The final project was unveiled at the newly-refurbished Aske Gardens on Pitfield Street, a structure by art and design practice United Visual Artists ?the?London leaders of the global Nike FlyKnit Collective.
The once neglected Aske Gardens has undergone an incredible transformation under the supervision of local architecture firm We Made That in recent months. Taking inspiration from the ?Sustainability? Flyknit Collective workshop that they led back in May, We Made That?s Oliver Goodhall and Holly Lewis have rejuvenated the space to include a brand-new basketball court, a resurfaced tennis court and flooring, and inviting lush green lawns. Wearing Nike + Hyperdunk, ballers took to the courts, drinks and food began to circulate, and a mellow DJ set from Acyde provided the perfect soundtrack to the start of a memorable evening.
Inspired by the Flyknit principles of ?performance? and ?lightness?, UVA?s?Floating Point?piece?provided the centrepoint of the evening. Guests gathered around the three specially-constructed trampolines in the middle of Aske Gardens to witness a stunning spectacle of light, sound and human skill. A?group of professional dancers performed a breathtaking fifteen minute piece on the artwork, choreographed by Ella Robson Guilfoyle.
When the show was over, guests took to the trampolines to test out UVA?s reactive technology for themselves. With each jump generating a a?different sound- and light- scape (depending on how high or how hard the user jumps)?Aske Gardens was filled with the sights and sounds of the?Floating Point?artwork in full effect, providing an atmospheric counterpart to an exuberant DJ set from Stuart Hammond of Palace Skateboards.
