When we highlighted The Wallpaper Wednesday Desktop, reader tmfk chimed into the discussions with his own alien-looking landscape and the HUD he built around it. It looks so good we couldn't help but feature it on its own.
The beautiful wallpaper here is complimented by the arc-like HUD elements around the corners of the desktop, which provide useful information like weather and system status, but keep the center of the screen clear for applications and work. Here's how you can give your Windows desktop the same look:
With those components installed, you can get the same look. Best of all, if you like the HUD but not the taskbar, you don't have to install them all?pick and choose the elements you like. If you have trouble wrangling Rainmeter, our guide can help, or you can stop by the original discussion thread to ask how tmfk how he did it.
Have your own shiny, functional desktop that you want to see featured on the site? Submit it?along with where you got the wallpaper, skins, and geeklets?to us for review. We have two different ways you can share it with us:
Linux, Mac, Windows, whatever you choose to use, please include a description of how you made your desktop when you send it in. Without that, we can't tell others how to make it for themselves so they can be featured too!
