PHL extends forex market trading by 30 minutes | Economy | GMA ...
The Philippines has extended daily onshore currency trading hours by 30 minutes, which the banking industry said would align the market with the rest of Asia and better address the needs of invertors and business.

The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) said that from Oct. 1 the afternoon trading session on the Philippine Dealing System would run from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (0600 to 0800GMT). Afternoon sessions previously opened at 2:30 p.m.

The morning session was unchanged at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (0100-0400 GMT).

The changed trading hours also apply to the forwards, swaps and options markets, said the BAP, which partly owns the country's electronic currency trading platform.

70-year-old Oregon farmer eaten by his hogs

On Wednesday morning, Terry V. Garner, a 70-year-old Oregon farmer, went to feed his animals. Several hours later, when he hadn?t returned, a family member went to look for him and found, on the ground of the hog enclosure, his dentures. ?
Further investigation of the enclosure revealed that the hogs, which each weighed about 700 pounds, had nearly completely eaten the farmer, although some body parts were strewn about the enclosure.
Now the Coos County Sheriff?s Office is investigating how Garner ?ended up in a position where the hogs were able to consume him.? According to the Sheriff's statement:
There are several scenarios being investigated, including that Mr. Garner had a health event, such as a heart attack, which then put him in a position where the hogs could consume him. Another scenario being investigated is that given the age and health of Mr. Garner, that one or more of the hogs knocked Mr. Garner to the ground, whereupon that hogs killed and consumed him.
The statement added that at least one of the hogs had previously been aggressive toward the farmer but did not specify how many hogs live on the farm.
Garner?s remains were examined on Saturday by a pathologist who was unable to determine how the man died. A forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon will also examine his remains.
Answering the phone at Garner?s home Monday, a man who described himself as a family friend described the tragedy succinctly: ?What a way.?
This isn?t the first time hogs have eaten their farmers.
In 2004, a Romanian woman was knocked unconscious and eaten by the pigs on her farm, UPI reported at the time. The news report did not say whether the woman survived, only that the pigs had eaten the woman's ears and half her face.?Her husband, sedated, told reporters: "I'll never breed such beasts again."

Despite tottering on the brink of elimination in the ongoing ICC World T20 Championship in Sri Lanka, South African skipper insists his side has been unfairly tagged as chokers.
After finishing the group stage in an emphatic style, topping the Group C, which also included hosts Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, the Proteas looked out of flair right from the start of the Super Eight stage. They lost their opening game of the second round against Pakistan by two wickets, after having the game almost in their games, with Pakistan reeling at 76 for seven, while chasing 137 to win.
The Proteas then suffered a demoralising eight-wicket defeat at the hands of rampaging Australia, on Sunday, to hit rock bottom in Group 2, and are almost out of contention for the final fours.
Skipper AB de Villiers admitted that they were outclassed by the formidable Aussies throughout the match, he however shrugged off the suggestions that his side choked against Bailey?s men.
"I would not say we choked, we were just pretty much outplayed from ball one onwards," De Villiers said during a media encounter after the eight-wicket crushing in Colombo.
"It's hard to put my finger on it. We started badly and finished badly as well. So, there is a bit of a bad taste in my mouth," the South African skipper went on to add.
The Proteas have a history of choking in global events. The only international title they had clinched in the history of cricket is the 1998 Champions Trophy. Since then they have regularly been branded as the perennial chokers of international cricket, as they failed to win another global event despite always being among favourites.
In order to qualify for the World T20 semi-finals, the Black Caps would have to demolish Dhoni?s Men in Blue, and hope Australia also beat Pakistan by a huge margin.
AB de Villiers is confident his side would bounce back on Tuesday to grab an entry ticket to the tournament semis.
"It's not all over yet," said the wicketkeeper batsman. "We are not the kind of team that will give up quickly. We will come back and try and improve, we will have to improve," he insisted.

DIY Old Maid Card Game Using Family Photos - Go Graham Go

I have always loved playing cards. I mean, I like playing?with?cards, but I mostly just love the cards themselves. All fifty-two of them. But I never, ever seem to be able to keep all fifty-two of them together for long. It always seems that the Jack of Diamonds ran off with the Queen of Clubs somewhere, and I am stuck with 50 odd cards that can no longer be used for a poker game. After a recent game night (and a hasty clean-up) I found myself once again short more than a few spades and hearts. So, I decided that instead of throwing away what was left of the deck, I would find a creative way to put these wax-coated cards to good use (?and no, it would not be in the Brady Bunch style of building an impossible house of cards. Who can really build one of those without glue anyway?!) I took my shoe box to my studio filled with: the playing cards, some corks, a few toothpicks that somehow got in the mix and some crumbs from the snacks that were consumed. Then I spent the whole day crafting (don?t worry, I threw the cracker crumbs out. I draw the line at crafting with crumbs, no matter how thrifty it is!) The result is three pretty clever ways to craft with corks and cards, If i do say so myself. But I will let? you be the judge!
Old Maid, The Family Way
Who doesn?t love the card game Old Maid? This was a big favorite in my household and we would squeal with laughter at whomever was stuck with that pitiful Maid. In this deck, I made myself the Maid because in my immediate?family, with both of my sisters paired up, it looks like I am heading that way!?This is a super fun and easy craft you and? will get really silly making.
Here?s how to make your own set:
- You?ll need a deck of cards with at least 12 matching pairs and one card for the Old Maid. I?used?a joker, but you can remove Queens and use the other of the same color?as the Old Maid.
- Find photos of your favorite family members ? the funnier, the better.?You will need two copies of each photo so that you can make a match.
- Hey, who says the Maid has to be a woman? Feel free to use an old boyfriend or crotchety Uncle Fred as the ?Maid?!
- Print photos regular 4 x 6 size and trim each face?to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2.
- Next, use a heavy duty glue stick like the one above to adhere the photos to the glossy cards. If you can?t find the Elmer?s Extreme, use a craft glue stick or one for photo mounting.
- Now is the fun part! Grab any fun papers, die-cuts and stickers you can find and get to making your family and friends look silly! When you?re all done, buckle down for a fun game?just don?t get stuck with that Maid, unless she is as cute as me!

Powerful typhoon hits Japan mainland

POWERFUL TYPHOON JELAWAT made landfall today on the Japanese mainland a day after hitting southern Okinawa island, where local media said it left one dead and some 140 people injured.
Packing winds of up to 180 kilometres per hour, the typhoon made landfall in central Aichi prefecture at around 7pm local time (10.00 GMT) and was moving up the main island of Honshu, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
A 29-year-old man was swept away by high waves when Jelawat hit Okinawa and was later confirmed dead, while at least 140 people were injured in eight prefectures, according to public broadcaster NHK.
The typhoon is forecast to churn north-eastwards towards Tokyo over the next 24 hours and bring torrential rainfall and towering waves up to 10 metres high.
More than 500 flights, mainly in western Japan, were cancelled today and some shinkansen bullet train services across the country had been suspended, Kyodo said.
Local authorities have ordered more than 2,000 in central Mie to evacuate, while tens of thousands of people were advised to leave home for safe shelter, according to NHK.
